Curriculum

Curriculum Intent

At Witchampton Church of England First School, our curriculum is rooted in our Christian vision and values of Friendship, Courage and Respect. It is ambitious, inclusive and carefully designed to enable every child to flourish academically, spiritually and emotionally.

Our curriculum aims to:

  • Equip all pupils, including those who are disadvantaged, with the knowledge, skills and aspirations they need for the future.
  • Develop confident, curious and resilient learners who demonstrate a love for learning and are well prepared for the next stage of their learning journey.
  • Ensure strong foundational skills for all in oracy, reading, writing and maths fluency.
  • Build knowledge and skills progressively, through a coherent and carefully sequenced curriculum which enables pupils to know more, remember more and make meaningful connections.
  • Reflect and respond to our local and national context, providing opportunities to develop personal and social awareness, physical and emotional well-being and offering memorable experiences beyond our community.
  • Develops confident, resilient and curious learners who are well prepared for transition to middle school.
  • Live out our Christian values, developing friendship, courage and respect and a desire to make a positive difference to others.

Through high expectations, strong relationships and an inclusive approach, we ensure every child is known, valued and supported to achieve their very best.

Pupil voice

The voice of the children is important at St John's First School and is an important part of our decision-making process.  Our Worship Team, School Council, Play Leaders, Librarians and School Ambassadors are all active participants in daily school life. Pupils also take part in partnership work with other schools in Initio Learning Trust and are a part of the pupil voice for Wimborne Town Council. We endeavour to reach beyond our local community by supporting local events, environmental projects and charitable causes, giving our children an active role in society.

Initio Learning Trust's Curriculum Vision

VALUES: Our three core Trust values are excellence, collaboration and respect.

VISION: Our pupils develop character through a love of learning to achieve and thrive. They are prepared to be lifelong learners and responsible citizens with a global perspective.

OUTCOMES: Every child will leave our schools with the best possible character - resilience, confidence, aspiration, integrity, compassion for others, respect, curiosity, spiritual awareness and team working.

The Initio Learning Trust's Curriculum Vision is closely entwined with our own curriculum vision.
